I've been very active in competitive dog sports for the last forty-five years. This has included initially obedience, conformation and then tracking with first a mixed breed and then with a Sheltie. When the OTCH came about the interest in obedience competition went up another notch continuing in Shelties. My husband, Gary got involved in obedience about thirty years ago and now focuses on agility. We've finished breed championships, OTCHs, MACHs, ADCHs, TDs, & a TDX too on Shelties and two Poms. In the last twenty years we have added Border Collies to help me become a more competent stockdog trainer. To that end I have competed at the Open level in BC trials winning on cattle & sheep & qualifying several dogs for the USBCHA Nursery Finals as well as having competed in the USBCHA Finals. In the AKC realm I've finished Herding Championships on five BCs and three Shelties as well as stockdog championships in other organizations. One of my dogs, Jaydee, was the first BCSA "Stockdog of Distinction" and the first "Versatile Border Collie" awarded at the 2007 BCSA National Specialty. Originally from Minnesota we have lived in Wisconsin, Mississippi, western Ohio and are currently located on 135 acres of rolling farm land (Finelia Farm) where we maintain a flock of approximately 200 sheep and goats, dozens of ducks and about 30 head of feeder steers. We host three week long herding instructional events each year plus a variety of herding competitions. My personal goal is to promote the Border Collie as not just a herding breed but the "best" herding breed which makes them invaluable to even today's rancher & farmer and a real joy to the stockdog enthusiast. I promote breeding only the well above average working stockdogs to make each generation at least as good as their parents and hopefully better. I've been on several AKC Herding Advisory Committees including the one currently in progress as a BCSA representative. I have been proud to represent the BCSA at the AKC Delegates' Meetings and have been on the Herding-Earthdog-Coursing Committee. The attendance to the Delegates' Meeting and numerous committee meetings held the day prior or the meeting morning have really made me even more aware of the inner workings of the AKC. My goal has been to bring this information back to the Board and to see that information & various suggestions are filtered through our club to its membership. Thank you. Page Updated 08.01.2008 |
