BETH BARTHOLOMEW - SKYE & SNITCH

Return to Spotlight on Rescues

Skye (UACHX, UCDX Sgitheanach Breagha MAD RM JM SAM NAC CDX MX MXJ HIC CGC)

Skye came to us through a "free to good home or going to the pound" ad. She had been found wandering the streets and no one claimed her. She was about a year old when we got her.

For a "street dog," Skye is incredibly affectionate towards people, but she doesn't like other dogs being too friendly. She is also a "control freak," which I think can be a common Border Collie trait! But on the good side, she is pretty laid back for a Border Collie as well.

Skye was trained extensively in obedience and got her CD and CDX in both AKC and UKC, including a Dog World Award and multiple High in Trial awards along the way. However, she was stressing when in the ring, so she is basically retired from obedience.

At this point, Skye and I are trialing exclusively in agility. We show at AKC and USDAA trials, where she is working at the top level in both. She has completed six Masters level titles this year between AKC and USDAA and is a joy to show, as she will always do her best to do whatever I ask. And she is just a joy to live with and love.

Snitch (SkyeSong's Golden Snitch)

Snitch came to us from Illini Border Collie Rescue, after I heard about him at the Border Collie National Specialty last year. We have had him about nine months, and he is about 18 months old now.

Unfortunately, at about 11 months, Snitch started having occasional seizures. He was put on potassium bromide when these got worse, and so far, thankfully, that seems to be taking care of the problem.

Snitch has been through a basic obedience class. He shows nice attention and some dynamite natural heeling, so we may go back and train seriously to show in obedience sometime in the future. But for now, we are mainly training in agility, plus we have just started herding lessons as well. He is a typical, high energy Border Collie, but when training, he is very intense and really tries to figure out what it is that I want. As long as his brain has a focus, he will do his best to please.
