Dr
Carmen Battaglia: Building a World of Better Dog Breeders.
How can anyone take a highly
sophisticated, scientific and technical subject like genetics and make it not
only easy to understand but even fun ? Ask Dr. Carmen Battaglia. That's just
what he's been doing for the past 25 years to the amazement and delight of the
dog-breeding world. He calls it "Breeding Better Dogs" and his methodology
works. The material he developed provides breeders with an easy method for
understanding the pedigrees of their dogs. It is based on the use of the "Stick
Dog" figures, and a Symbols Pedigree which offers two new ways to visually
represent the strengths and weaknesses of a dog's traits. By utilizing this
simple method, it is easy to determine which characteristics will be needed in a
stud dog. Now you can learn how to enhance the genetic qualities of your
bloodline. The result - an ever improving program that can produce better dogs.
Carmen was given his first dog by
his grandfather when he was five years old. That was the beginning of a lifelong
fascination with all aspects of dog behavior, breeding, training, and showing.
He has personally bred and finished several Champions, Select Dogs, Futurity and
Maturity winners.
Today, Dr. Battaglia is
considered an expert as well as a highly respected AKC Judge of more than 40
breeds. By education, (holding the Masters and Doctorate from Florida
State University), he is a researcher, lecturer and author. His articles have
appeared in the "AKC Gazette", "Dog World", "Dog News", "Canadian Shepherd
Journal", "South African Dog Magazine", as well as dog publications in Australia
and Ireland.
Being very active in the dog
world, Dr. Battaglia is a Director of the American Kennel Club and has served as
Chairman of such important committees as: National Genetics Committee (German
Shepherd Dog Club of America), the American Kennel Club Committee for the
Future, the Operations and Planning Committee, as well as the Health and
Education Delegates Committee.
The AKC called upon his expertise
in genetics to create and develop their DNA program. He is also a much sought
after speaker on this topic for television and radio talk20shows.
Author of several different books
on dog breeding, Dr. Battaglia has gained worldwide recognition, most notably
for the program he developed - "Breeding Better Dogs". Popular demand has
prompted the creation of a seminar for dog clubs which mirrors his book and a
video of this method which has been presented across the country and is
considered an imperative foundation to any successful breeding program.

Myra
Savant Harris:
It is my hope that you will read
my books and attend my seminars with the understanding that I am simply an
experienced dog breeder sharing with you not only the things that I have learned
by breeding my dogs and other animals over my lifetime, but also sharing with
you the many things that I have learned from my vets and from the many dog
breeders who have so generously shared with me their own experiences. My advice
would always be to discuss health issues and concerns with your own vets while
at the same time availing yourselves of the information that experienced and
knowledgeable dog breeders will be happy to share with you. Be prepared both
with knowledge and supplies before entering the breeding arena. Avail yourselves
at every opportunity to learn and at some point in time, be generous with your
own experiences so that people new to breeding can grow in confidence. Many of
us live long distances from our vets and are delivering our puppies in the
middle of the night. Hopefully your dog breeding friends will be on-call for you
in the event that you are unable to reach a vet when questions arise. Thank you
for your continued presence at my seminars and for all of the helpful and truly
amazing things that you have taught me over the years.
Canine Reproduction and Whelping:
gets down to the basics of breeding, explaining the characteristics of the sperm
and the egg, the role that diet plays in whelping, and how to whelp your
puppies. The seminar is intended to assist you in making sure your bitches get
in whelp, stay in whelp and deliver healthy puppies. A clean, bloodless
technique for the removal of dew claws is also taught to the layman dog breeder.
Puppy Intensive Care, teaches dog
breeders all of the techniques that they need to know in order to set up a Puppy
Intensive Care Unit and deliver the support that their sick puppies need. You
will learn how to tube feed, utilize sub coetaneous hydration methods and
deliver oxygen to pups who would otherwise die. You will learn how to do the
things you need to do to keep your puppy losses to a minimum. The book comes
with an instructional DVD as well that demonstrates the hands-on skills that
every dog breeder needs.
