2008BORDER COLLIE NATIONAL SPECIALTY
October 15-21, 2008-Purina Farms-Gray Summit, Missouri
JUDGE MONICA CANESTRINI

Return to Judge Central

I grew up with Rough Collies in the Milwaukee Wisconsin area and competed with them at AKC shows and obedience trials in the late 1950’s. After graduating from college, a lifetime affair with Dachshunds began. My husband and I married in 1967, moved to Denver and later embarked on an 18-year breeding program, producing champion Dachshunds under our “Canebrake” prefix – several dogs became successful specials, a few earned obedience and earthdog titles, all were beloved members of our household in Wheat Ridge, CO.

Judging was a natural progression from my other life as a teacher. I started my AKC conformation judging with Dachshunds and Junior Showmanship in 1989, received approval for the Hound Group in 1998 and the Herding Group in 2003. I’m approved to judge Best-in-Show and eight Non-Sporting breeds to date…my lifelong study of dogs continues.

It’s a real privilege to have steadily judged from coast-to-coast over the years. I’ve been elected to judge the Dachshund National (1992, 1998, 2002, 2008), the Australian Shepherd Club of America National in 1994, plus specialties in these and various other breeds. I have lots of favorite all-breed assignments; examples like the KC of Palm Springs, Westchester KC, the televised Houston KC, and shows in Australia and Canada immediately come to mind.

Every judging opportunity offers special memories and I’m looking forward with great anticipation to the Border Collie Society of America supported show in Gray Summit MO on Oct 19, 2008. Thank you for a wonderful judging invitation.
